Here is the highly awaited segment on exercising during lockdown whilst at University! Hope you feel inspired and start your journey towards a fitter and healthier you after this!
Everything is so unpredictable now and the rules keep changing. It is therefore really helpful to develop an exercise routine that you can sustain if we were to go into another lockdown.
Home workouts are really amazing. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, YouTube has got you covered! Have a look around and just pick one video and try it out. If you like it, great! Continue with it. If not, try another one!
If you’re a beginner, start small with one video. Try to do it for a month and make sure that you do not go more than 1 day without doing the video. (This is also a great tip for building other habits!). As you progress and improve, add another video to your routine or invest in a resistance band or weights to challenge yourself!
If your living situation does not allow you the space to do such workouts, try going for a jog around your neighbourhood or go to the park and do your workouts there. It’s all about adapting and making do with what you have.
Establishing a simple and sustainable workout routine adds structure to your day and its quite useful with most classes being online and having to structure your learning on your own.
It is also important to hold yourself accountable to become consistent. I found that letting those close to you know about your fitness journey is really helpful. I did this by creating a private story on Snapchat titled, ‘FitGyal 2021.’ I posted snaps of my workouts and what I ate. In these times, having a support group is crucial. Their continuous cheering pushed me to keep on going. I even got some of them to start working out! This sense of community where you inspire one another is a great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
In summary, you just got to put yourself out there and try new things to figure out what works for you. And don’t worry about not having it all sorted out! It will take time!
Be safe and I hope you guys can make the most out of University!
